FLORENCE JANZEN

I was influenced by my dad who was an architect by trade and my mom who has many talents including sewing, crotchet, cooking, gardening and anything to keep her hands and body busy.

I decided to go to clothing design school, then business school for marketing. After working in the oil and gas industry in Calgary for almost 25 years, the pandemic had other plans for me. The company I was with closed its doors and I was left with a lot of time on my hands.

I’ve collected art for many years and one of the artists I followed had an online class, and I fearfully picked up a brush to see if I could create something worthy. In just over a year, it’s become a passion and something that gives me pure joy. I’m inspired to paint the beauty in my surroundings including botanicals, lakes, mountains and most recently bears.
